What Is Kratom?

Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is an evergreen tree indigenous to Southeast Asia that can reach heights of 50 feet, with a spread of over 15 feet. It has yellow flowers and dark glossy green leaves.

Kratom grows wild throughout this region and is generally jungle harvested rather than actively cultivated.

What forms are available?
Powders (ultra-finely ground leaves) are usually the most popular option for aromatherapy but it is also sold in capsule, liquid extract, encapsulated enhanced extract capsule, resin, and raw leaf forms for various length  aromatherapy sessions.

What are the different varieties?
Generally kratom is classified by the country of origin and the color of the main vein that runs the length of the leaf. The aromatherapy effects will vary between different countries because of the rainfall, elevation, soil, and temperature range where the plant in grown. Additionally, the main vein colors are a great indicator of what to expect from your purchase. A great rule of thumb is that red veins are relaxing, green veins fall right in the middle, and white veins are the most energizing varieties.
